One demand · four rights we organize to make enforceable

Power Must Answer

They judged your life through a system, handed you the outcome, and hid the deciding hand. You do not have to accept the loop. Power must answer.

THE SYSTEM TOUCHED YOUR LIFE. THEN IT REFUSED TO SHOW ITS HAND.

A job vanished. A benefit stopped. A voice was buried. A door closed. You met a score, a portal, or a scripted answer where an accountable person should have stood.

You are not asking for mercy from the machine. You are asserting the right to know what happened, confront the reason, reach a human with power, and repair the damage.

YOU ARE NOT THE SCORE.
YOU ARE THE PERSON THE SYSTEM MUST ANSWER.

NO CONSEQUENTIAL AUTOMATED JUDGMENT WITHOUT NOTICE, REASONS, ACCOUNTABLE HUMAN APPEAL, AND THE POWER TO REPAIR.

A consequential automated judgment includes a score, ranking, classification, generated summary, recommendation, inference, moderation action, or workflow that materially affects work, pay, education, housing, credit, insurance, healthcare administration, benefits, public services, legal standing, visibility, reputation, access, safety, or opportunity.

01

Notice

Tell the affected person that an automated or AI-enabled system materially influenced the outcome. Identify the system’s role, responsible institution, decision date, and durable case reference.

A vague reference to “technology” is not notice.

02

Reasons

State the principal data, rules, objectives, material factors, source records, and inferences that shaped the result in language a person can understand.

“The algorithm decided” is not a reason.

03

Accountable human appeal

Provide a named or identifiable reviewer with time, independence, relevant information, and real authority to reconsider and reverse the outcome.

A chatbot loop is not an appeal.

04

Repair

Correct inaccurate source data, add missing context, notify downstream systems, reverse the result where justified, and restore lost access, pay, status, opportunity, reach, reputation, or standing.

A correction without downstream repair leaves the machine’s lie alive.

The same four rights travel across institutions.

The language changes by sector. The public standard does not.

File the request. Preserve the response. Document the silence.

One request makes a record. Coordinated requests—through coworkers, unions, tenants, students, patients, creators, and neighbors—make evasion visible and collective bargaining possible.

The demand becomes public power when people repeat it, compare outcomes, and show which institutions corrected the record—and which refused to answer.

IF POWER JUDGED YOU, MAKE IT ANSWER IN WRITING.
THE NEXT PERSON DESERVES THE RECORD YOU FORCE INTO EXISTENCE.

Civic and design standard; not legal advice. Applicable law, contracts, deadlines, and remedies vary. Preserve evidence and seek qualified help where the stakes require it.
